The child first selects a template suited to their interest or level and fits it onto the base board, aligning its perforations with the openings beneath. Reading the colours indicated on the template's design, the child identifies, for each opening, the button that belongs there, then picks up that button, orients it and presses it into place, where the matching colours of button and template confirm that the placement is correct.

As this sequence is repeated across the template, the isolated act of matching a single colour accumulates into something larger: a complete image emerges from what began as an empty, perforated outline. This progression — from template, through board and button, to finished illustration — is the defining rhythm of the game, and it is precisely this sequence, repeated across an open library of templates and themes, that gives Button Puzzle its educational and creative identity.

Button Puzzle has developed through successive generations, each of which has refined and extended the original concept rather than departed from it. Over time, the product has incorporated improvements in functionality, construction and finish; in the aesthetic treatment of its board, templates and buttons; in the range and sophistication of its educational content and illustrations; and in the configuration of its board and packaging, all directed at improving the end user's experience.

Each of these developments — whether a refinement of materials, a new board configuration, an expanded set of templates or an enhanced presentation — is regarded by the company as a natural evolution of the same underlying creative concept originally established for Button Puzzle, and not as an independent or unrelated creation. This document, and the intellectual property it describes, extends to that continuing line of development.

The originality of Button Puzzle does not reside in any single component considered in isolation, but in the distinctive way in which its elements are conceived to work together. What the company protects, and what this document describes, is the particular creative expression arising from the interaction between a perforated board, a family of interchangeable templates and a set of matching coloured buttons — an interaction that is simultaneously mechanical, visual and spatial, and that gives rise to a coherent, original educational system.

This protection is not a claim over a mechanism or a technical solution as such, still less a monopoly over the general idea of a matching or insertion game — a category that predates Button Puzzle and has previously been executed in other materials, board shapes and button forms. It is a claim over the specific creative expression that the company has given to that idea: the particular combination of board layout, template design, button geometry, colour correspondence and visual identity through which a familiar educational idea has been brought to life in this distinctive form. It is this original expression, and the overall impression it produces, that constitutes the protected creative concept.

The general idea of teaching colour recognition and fine motor coordination through a matching or insertion game is not, in itself, new, and the company makes no claim to the contrary. Games built on that same basic idea have existed for years, in plastic and other materials, and in other board and button configurations. What the company protects is not that idea, but the particular aesthetic and structural expression it has given to it in Button Puzzle: the distinctive geometry, proportion and visual identity developed for its board and buttons, and the specific, coordinated design through which those elements operate together.

It is that particular design — individually and as a coordinated whole — that is protected as an original work, together with the specific set of game mechanics through which it is put into practice. Because the protected work is the design itself and not the underlying idea, protection is not confined to one exact set of measurements or finishes: it extends to the family of closely related variations described in Section 9, all of which share the same distinctive design character.

Protection likewise extends to the overall visual appearance of the product in its various configurations: the board configuration and the spatial distribution of its openings; the design of the buttons, including their shape, proportion and finish; and the template system through which educational content is delivered and exchanged. The synchronised interaction between these components — the precise way in which board, template and button are designed to align, correspond and complete one another — is itself an object of protection, distinct from any single element taken alone.

One of the central features of the protection attaching to Button Puzzle is that it is not limited to a single physical execution of the product. The protected concept is defined by the creative relationship between its components, not by any one set of dimensions, materials or finishes, and it therefore extends, without limitation, to a broad and expressly anticipated range of variations across every element of the system.

This is a deliberate feature of the protection, not an incidental one: by anticipating and expressly encompassing the variations described below, the company ensures that the scope of its rights cannot be circumvented through minor or cosmetic modification of any single component.

Buttons

The protected concept extends to buttons of any shape, geometry, dimension, colour, material or texture, whether presented as single-level or multi-tiered (stepped) pieces, and irrespective of the fixing or coupling system employed.

The protected concept extends to templates in any material or configuration, whether rigid or flexible, fixed or interchangeable.

Interaction Between Components

The protected concept extends to alternative systems for fixing and aligning templates, boards and buttons, including rail and guide systems, magnetic or velcro fixings, clip mechanisms, and interchangeable modular assemblies of any kind.

None of these variations, individually or in combination, is regarded as departing from the essence of the design. On the contrary, each is treated as a natural evolution of the same creative concept and therefore remains within the scope of the intellectual property described in this document.

The creative expression, overall appearance and distinctive design described throughout this document represent a genuine investment of creativity, time and resources on the part of their author. The company takes pride in that work and is committed to its protection under applicable intellectual property law.

Reproducing the protected creative expression of Button Puzzle, its overall appearance, or any substantial part of its distinctive design — whether through direct copying or through modifications that leave the underlying concept and its overall impression essentially unchanged — may constitute an infringement of the intellectual property rights described in this document.
